To counter weak demand in the United States, Beyond Meat, which supplies its plant-based meat patties to fast food chains such as McDonald's and Yum! The company has also been able to sustain demand for plant-based meat in its international markets, particularly Europe. Cost-cut measures, including job cuts taken last year, have also helped reduce the burden on margins from sluggish demand in the United States. Net revenue for the fourth quarter fell 7.8% to $73.7 million, but topped analysts' average estimate of $66.7 million, as per LSEG data. Still, the company's full-year net revenue forecast in the range of $315 million to $345 million was largely below market expectations of $343.8 million.

Ingka Group, which runs most Ikea stores, is leading the charge. One mall that Ingka recently acquired in the English city of Brighton included an Apple store and a Zara store. It added an Ikea store in the mall where a now-closed department store used to stand. The Ikea stores in these malls are often smaller than one of the brand's typical warehouses, which tend to be located in their own buildings on the outskirts of cities. In the US, Ikea has also opened some showroom-style stores built around complete setups for bedrooms, kitchens, and other rooms.

expect retailers to start stocking more "green" meatballs and bean burgers in place of fake-meat products amid rising concerns about ultra-processed foods. Plant-based meats are generally regarded as healthier than meat products because they're typically lower in fat and higher in fiber. "We're not sure that the demand is going to be there for those products," Firth said. Firth added that he expected plant-based meat manufacturers to increasingly focus on having cleaner labels by reducing the number of ingredients. "So I think moving forward we'd like to see more plant-based options that don't even have to shout about being plant-based or vegan.

When my teenage sons were younger, I worked a recurring theme into the meals I cooked for them. I called it the Meatball of the Month Club. The fun of it was in tracking down meatball recipes from different cultures in cookbooks and recipe sites, and then using them as the centerpiece for meals that introduced my family to new cuisines. Years later, I realized that I could have made things a lot easier on myself by holding Meatball of the Month Club meetings in restaurants. New York has to be one of the best cities in the world for meatball collectors.

Iowa is make or break for Mr. DeSantis, who has gone all in on the state. This makes it especially unsettling for his team that Ms. Haley has caught up with him there in recent polling. Mr. DeSantis has long benefited from the belief by many in the G.O.P. That said, Team DeSantis is determined not to get outworked — which is also something Iowans take very seriously. We visited four Subway in Southern California to figure out how Roark can fix the brand. So I visited four Subway stores near my Southern California home. It is one of hundreds of Subway stores that have been remodeled over the years. In 2021, The New York Times conducted its lab test and published a report stating that it found no tuna DNA in Subway tuna sandwiches. I ordered the tuna sandwich at a Subway in Santa Ana, California, an aging stand-alone store in a former adobe-style Taco Bell building.

Several employees at souvenir shops in Chinatown said that the shirts were a relatively recent addition. They started carrying them after noticing their popularity at stores in Little Italy. One employee at a Chinatown gift shop said that the store started carrying the “Daddy’s Little Meatball” shirt just two months ago. It has sold “Mommy’s Little Meatball” for the past couple of years, he said, but he has noticed sales for both increasing this summer. Ajit Biswas, who works at a gift shop on Canal Street, said that the store sold about 10 to 15 of the shirts every day, adding that “Mommy’s Little Meatball” is the more popular option.

New York CNN —Soon, Americans are going to able to try chicken that comes directly from chicken cells rather than, well, a chicken. On Wednesday, the USDA gave Upside Foods and Good Meat the green light to start producing and selling their lab-grown, or cultivated, chicken products in the United States. In a nutshell, lab-grown meat — or cultivated or cell-based meat — is meat that is developed from animal cells and grown, with the help of nutrients like amino acids, in massive bioreactors. Meat eaters who are concerned about those types of risks might prefer cultivated meat. Eat Just Inc's Good Meat cultivated chicken.

Robert Plunket was living in a trailer park in Englewood, Fla., with his pug, Meatball, when an email interrupted his life of quiet retirement. “I did feel like an obscure has-been,” Plunket said, “because that’s what I was, technically.”Now, Plunket is relishing his new status as a former has-been. This month, the independent publisher New Directions reissued his novel, “My Search for Warren Harding,” a biting comedy about a scholar who goes to extreme, morally questionable lengths to access letters Warren Harding sent to his mistress. What’s even more unusual about Plunket, and his unlikely return, is how stealthily influential his fiction has been over the decades. His admirers include writers like the novelist Ann Beattie and the journalist Frank Rich, comedians like Amy Sedaris and Larry David.

In a bizarre attempt to insult his father's 2024 presidential competitor, Trump Jr. re-posted the video with the caption, "DeSantis does seem to spend a lot of time in high heels." In the clip, Ron DeSantis's face and voice are superimposed over Michael Scott's — the character played by Steve Carell — in a scene where Scott is being ridiculed at the office for wearing a woman's suit. At the end of the scene, the AI-generated Ron DeSantis as Michael Scott looks to the camera and says, "Negotations are all about controlling things, about being in the driver's seat.

Turn Your Pasta Primavera Into a Lasagna
  + stars: | 2023-05-03 | by ( Melissa Clark | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: 1 min
In the United States, lasagna almost universally entails tomato sauce, mozzarella and ricotta. However, a recent visit to Italy reminded me that the lasagna family is, in fact, vast and varied. There are hard-boiled egg and meatball-stuffed lasagnas from Naples; chicken liver studded ones from Le Marche; Bolognese and béchamel-swathed examples from Emilia-Romagna. But there was one version that made me run to pull out my lasagna pan as soon as I got home: white lasagna. Made with a béchamel sauce and often meatless, white lasagnas are plush, creamy showcases for seasonal vegetables — artichokes in spring, zucchini in summer, mushrooms in the fall, radicchio in winter — layered between thin sheets of pasta, then baked until golden.
Barbara Alper/Getty ImagesDrag has become increasingly visible in recent years through mainstream shows like “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and popular public events such as drag brunches, drag bingo and drag queen story hours, in which drag performers read children’s books to young audiences, often at libraries. Some trans drag queens who received hormone injections were “strongly deplored by stage impersonators who (said) that the whole point of female impersonation depends on maleness,” Newton wrote. But “Drag Race” has also skewed viewers’ definition of drag – no drag kings have ever competed on the series, Testa noted, and the judges have long imposed somewhat traditional beauty standards upon contestants. Pickle reads from a book during the Drag Queen Story Hour program at a Los Angeles library in 2019. These lawmakers falsely claim that drag performers “groom” or sexualize children, of which there is also no evidence.
